Soft Wash vs. Pressure Wash: Which Does Your Home Need?
If you've ever searched for exterior cleaning, you've probably seen both terms thrown around. But they're not interchangeable — using the wrong method on the wrong surface can cause real damage.
What Is Pressure Washing?
Pressure washing uses high-pressure water — typically 2,500 to 4,200 PSI — to blast away dirt, grime, oil stains, and buildup from hard surfaces. It's ideal for concrete driveways, sidewalks, patios, and other surfaces that can handle the force.
At Washing Limitless, we use a Simpson 4200 PSI machine with a surface cleaner attachment for driveways. The surface cleaner distributes pressure evenly, so you get streak-free results without the "zebra stripe" pattern that a wand alone can leave.
What Is Soft Washing?
Soft washing uses low pressure — about the same as a garden hose — combined with specialized cleaning solutions. The solution does the work, not the pressure. We use sodium hypochlorite (SH) mixed with a bleach-safe surfactant that clings to surfaces and kills algae, mold, and mildew at the root.
This is the only safe method for vinyl siding, brick, stucco, Hardie board, painted surfaces, and roofs. High pressure on these materials can crack siding, force water behind walls, strip paint, and void roof warranties.
When to Use Each
Pressure Wash
- • Concrete driveways
- • Sidewalks & walkways
- • Garage floors
- • Brick pavers (with care)
- • Parking lots
Soft Wash
- • House siding (all types)
- • Roofs & shingles
- • Soffits & fascia
- • Painted surfaces
- • Delicate stone (travertine)
The Bottom Line
A good exterior cleaning company uses both methods — matching the technique to the surface. That's exactly what we do at Washing Limitless. Your driveway gets the pressure it needs. Your siding gets the gentle treatment it deserves.
